Do you feel ready?
If you have been facing the heartache of infertility, IVF and other assisted treatments can offer a very precious opportunity. All too often though, by the time you get to this point, you may already be feeling worn down by your fertility struggles, and may be trying to cope with the emotional side-effects of months or even years of failure.
Feelings of stress, worry, fearfulness & maybe a reluctance to be hopeful, are all too common at this time. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
Support for your Mindset…
The work I do with clients at this stage in their journey, often includes supporting them with their mindset around having fertility treatment. A helpful mindset can bring supportive benefits for the whole process of conception, and this is never more important, than during assisted treatments.
The number of sessions we have together will vary depending on your needs and the timescales we have to work with. There are many ways I can support you, and we can tailor the sessions to focus on what’s important to you.
Handling the difficult emotions you may have about your fertility…
In our sessions together we can look at the emotional challenges you are facing right now, and set some goals for how you would like to feel as you move through the stages of your fertility treatment.
I am able to share strategies and tactics to help you cope with the day to day challenges of IVF/IUI, handle fears and anxieties connected with your treatment and work through negative thoughts and feelings as they arise. We can also take time to look at any emotional blocks that may not be serving you.
Staying calm, confident and emotionally in control…
I can share techniques to help you stay calm, confident and emotionally in control throughout each stage in your treatment, with very specific support at particular times. For example the Peaceful Procedures Process for egg retrieval and embryo transfer.
In some of the sessions I use deep relaxation & visualisation techniques to help you feel calmer and more emotionally in control, and to help build and nurture a supportive connection between your mind and body. I also provide these as MP3 recordings which are yours to keep, & continue to use when our sessions together have finished.
Self-care is never more important than at this time, so I can help you to identify & put in place, the changes you want to make, to ensure you are in the best place possible to cope with each step in the process. Together we can also put together a plan to ensure you have all the support you need, at each step along the way.
If its helpful and timely to do so, we can explore what other areas of your life have been negatively impacted on by your fertility journey and look at how you can go about turning that around.
Life after fertility treatment…
Whilst there can never be any guarantees about fertility treatment outcomes, through our work together, I can help you to develop a mindset that will support you on your pathway forward. Once your fertility treatment has finished we can look at the next steps on your journey if that is helpful, and the life skills and insights you gain whilst working with me, will be there to support you in all aspects of your future life as you move forward.
Is Coaching Right for You?
I am trained as a fertility coach and whilst my clients describe my sessions as hugely supportive and therapeutic, I am not a therapist and so I don’t offer therapy. If you feel you need a counselling service with a specialist therapist who is trained in mental health, talk to your doctor or get in touch with the British Infertility Counselling Association or British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy to find a registered counsellor.
If you are unsure about the difference between what I offer as a fertility coach, and the counselling support you can get from a infertility counsellor, you can find out more here.
