Fertility Coaching or Fertility Counselling

Clients often stumble across my website when they are investigating the options for emotional support on their fertility journey. They may also be considering fertility counselling as an option.  Many people haven’t heard of a fertility coach before. Many are unsure about what I can offer and how that differs from fertility counselling.

What’s the difference and which is right for you?

Fertility Coaching focuses on moving towards specific goals by allowing you to see clearly where you are today, then supporting you to create pathways forward.  It supports you to tap into what you already know and create actions which feel right for you.  This process can help break through limiting beliefs and create a sense of direction and personal empowerment.

In the programme I offer, I combine fertility coaching with some work around the emotions you are experiencing during your fertility journey. I also include a range of techniques for deep relaxation and visualisation.  This supports you to pursue your pathway forward, whilst feeling calmer and more resilient.  You can read more about what I offer here.

In contrast with the fertility coaching work I do, fertility counselling is a talking therapy.  It provides the opportunity to talk about your feelings, emotions and difficulties with a therapist who is trained in mental health.  This can help you to get a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes.  Fertility Counselling can be helpful for lots of things including depression and anxiety. There are therapists who are specifically trained as fertility counsellors. Fertility clinics have fertility counselling available in-house to support their patients.

Where to find alternatives to Fertility Coaching

As a trained fertility coach my clients frequently describe my sessions as hugely supportive and therapeutic. However I am not a therapist and so I don’t offer therapy. If you feel you need a counselling service with a specialist therapist who is trained in mental health, talk to your doctor or get in touch with the British Infertility Counselling Association or  British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy  to find a registered counsellor.

As a fertility Coach, I am always happy to talk with individuals and couples, about the support I offer, and explore if this meets their needs.  Fertility counsellors offer similar opportunities to discuss their work. So if you are unsure what’s right for you, reach out to find out more.
